Bringing Generations Together: Edwinstowe Care Home and Happy Hearts Nursery Launch ‘Hearts and Smiles’

Residents are bridging generations thanks to a heartwarming new community initiative between Nightingale Nursing and Care Home and Happy Hearts Nursery in Edwinstowe.

The “Hearts and Smiles” programme brings together care home residents and nursery children every Tuesday afternoon for fun, games, and meaningful engagement. The weekly sessions are designed to encourage connection and friendship between the youngest and oldest members of the community in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

Through interaction and storytelling, both residents and children are building bonds that benefit everyone involved. Research shows that intergenerational activities can help reduce loneliness and improve overall wellbeing for both older adults and children.

Tara Spencer, Home Manager at Nightingale Nursing and Care Home said:

“We are so proud to be working with Happy Hearts Nursery for this brilliant initiative. Our first session was a resounding success. Seeing smiles on the faces of both our residents and the children is very special. The children bring so much joy and energy into the home!”
